Vi er inspirert av Pave Frans sitt engasjement for fattigdom og matsikkerhet.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #161616;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">Rundt 800 millioner mennesker sulter i verden (FAO). <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">I tillegg er et \u00f8kende antall mennesker feilern\u00e6rt fordi de ikke har r\u00e5d eller tilgang til nok n\u00e6ringsrik mat. \u00c5rsaken til at folk sulter er ikke n\u00f8dvendigvis mangel p\u00e5 mat i seg selv, men henger sammen med fattigdomsproblematikk og fordelingsstrukturer.<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #161616;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">70% av verdens fattige er avhengig av landbruk for inntekt og arbeid (Verdensbanken). <\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #161616;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">Vi mener at en stor del av l\u00f8sningen finnes i en \u00f8kt satsning p\u00e5 klimasmart jordbruk for sm\u00e5skalab\u00f8nder.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #161616;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><i><b>Matsikkerhet<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #161616;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><i> betyr \u00e5 ha tilgang til nok mat, trygg mat og n\u00e6ringsrik mat, for \u00e5 kunne leve et aktivt og sunt liv hele \u00e5ret (FN). Retten til mat er nedfelt i FN Verdenserkl\u00e6ring om menneskerettighetene art. 25. Gjennom FNs b\u00e6rekraftighetsm\u00e5l har alle stater forpliktet seg til \u00e5\u00a0utrydde sult, oppn\u00e5 matsikkerhet og bedre ern\u00e6ring, og fremme b\u00e6rekraftig landbruk innen 2030.\u00a0<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #161616;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><b><br \/>\nKonsekvenser av sult<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">Sult er en av de st\u00f8rste kildene til sykdom, og p\u00e5virker b\u00e5de menneskers fysiske og psykiske tilstand og utfoldelse. Barn som sulter i l\u00f8pet av de to f\u00f8rste leve\u00e5rene f\u00e5r ofte skader som hemmer deres utvikling livet ut. Av disse grunnene <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><b>regnes sult og feilern\u00e6ring som den st\u00f8rste helsetrusselen p\u00e5 verdensbasis<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"> \u2013 st\u00f8rre enn HIV\/AIDS, malaria og tuberkulose til sammen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">Barn som sulter har problemer med \u00e5 f\u00f8lge med p\u00e5 skolen. Sult gj\u00f8r arbeidsstyrken mindre produktiv fordi s\u00f8ken etter mat overskygger alt annet. Sult kan ogs\u00e5 bidra til \u00e5 \u00f8ke spenningene i et samfunn og utl\u00f8se kriger og konflikt. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><i><b>Visste du at? <\/b><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><i>98 prosent av mennesker som sulter bor i utviklingsland<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><i>45 prosent av alle d\u00f8dsfall blant barn under fem \u00e5r er sultrelatert<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><i>33 prosent av alle verdens barn har kognitive funksjonshemminger p\u00e5 grunn av sult<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><i>60 prosent av de som sulter i verden er kvinner<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><i>Det store flertallet av de 800 millionene som sulter i verden i dag selv er matprodusenter<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><i>Kilde: (WFP\/FAO)<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #161616;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #161616;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><b>\u00c5rsaker til sult<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><i>Fattigdom <\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><a name=\"_GoBack\"><\/a> <span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><b>Flertallet av de som sulter selv er matprodusenter,<\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"> noe som fremst\u00e5r som et paradoks. \u00c5rsaken er at fattige b\u00f8nder med sm\u00e5 \u00e5kerlapper i utviklingsland mangler gode s\u00e5fr\u00f8, redskaper, vanningsanlegg og tilgang til kreditt for \u00e5 kunne drive effektivt jordbruk. Mange fattige b\u00f8nder f\u00e5r heller ikke den utdannelsen og veiledningen de trenger. D\u00e5rlig infrastruktur samt manglende muligheter for transport, lagring og foredling av avlingene gj\u00f8r det i tillegg vanskelig for b\u00f8nder som produserer med overskudd \u00e5 f\u00e5 solgt varene sine p\u00e5 markedet og skape seg en inntekt. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><i>Klimaendringene <\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">FN sp\u00e5r at verdens matproduksjon kan bli redusert med s\u00e5 mye som 25 prosent innen 2050 p\u00e5 grunn av klimaendringer. For en sm\u00e5bonde som er totalt avhengig av naturen og v\u00e6ret er dette katastrofalt. Med befolkningsvekst har presset \u00f8kt p\u00e5 verdens skoger og landjord. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><b>Avskoging, forurensning og lite b\u00e6rekraftige dyrkingsmetoder bidrar til at matjorda utarmes og gj\u00f8r b\u00f8nder mange steder ute av stand til \u00e5 \u00f8ke produksjonen. <\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">Mer enn 80 prosent av verdens mest matusikre mennesker lever i land som er spesielt utsatt for naturkatastrofer. V\u00e6rfenomenet El Ni\u00f1o har f\u00f8rt til t\u00f8rke, flom og ekstremv\u00e6r mange steder i 2015 og 2016. Rundt 60 millioner mennesker er i dag truet av sult som en direkte f\u00f8lge av El Ni\u00f1o. P\u00e5 grunn av klimaendringene kan vi derfor forvente en \u00f8kning i antall klimaflyktninger.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><i><b>Sult dreper oftere enn kuler i krig<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">Sult og konflikt er kriser som forsterker hverandre. Konflikt har ofte katastrofale konsekvenser for befolkningens tilgang p\u00e5 mat. En vanskelig sikkerhetssituasjon og mangel p\u00e5 ressurser gj\u00f8r ofte at den lokale matproduksjonen i krigsomr\u00e5der stopper opp. Samtidig kan det v\u00e6re vanskelig \u00e5 frakte mat inn utenfra, og prisene p\u00e5 den maten som er tilgjengelig stiger s\u00e5 dramatisk at de f\u00e6rreste har r\u00e5d til den. I Madaya, Syria, ble for eksempel en bil fors\u00f8kt solgt for 15 kilo ris. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><b>Det er derfor ofte ikke v\u00e5pen, men sult som dreper flest mennesker i en konflikt. <\/b><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">Dersom hele systemet for matproduksjon bryter fullstendig sammen, kan en konflikt p\u00e5virke sultsituasjonen i et omr\u00e5de ogs\u00e5 i lang tid etter at den er over.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><i>Diskriminering <\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\">Sult handler ogs\u00e5 om maktforhold, diskriminering og ujevn fordeling av ressurser i et samfunn. Kvinner, urfolk og andre marginaliserte grupper er mer utsatt for sult enn andre p\u00e5 grunn av vanskeligere tilgang p\u00e5 ressurser, manglende utdanning og utestenging fra det \u00f8vrige samfunnet. I utviklingsland er flertallet av de som jobber i landbruket kvinner. De kvinnelige sm\u00e5b\u00f8ndene har d\u00e5rligere tilgang enn menn til jord, kreditt og andre innsatsfaktorer som vil \u00f8ke produksjonen. Utdannelse og veiledningstjenester for b\u00f8nder er oftere tilgjengelig for menn. Resultatet er at kvinner produserer mindre mat p\u00e5 tilsvarende areal. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><b>Det er ansl\u00e5tt at hvis kvinner hadde lik tilgang til ressurser og kunnskap som menn, ville 150 millioner f\u00e6rre mennesker sultet i verden.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #161616;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><b>Hva gj\u00f8r Caritas?<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #161616;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><i>St\u00f8tte til sm\u00e5skalab\u00f8nder<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">Caritas sikrer fattige sm\u00e5b\u00f8nder i utviklingsland:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>oppl\u00e6ring i effektive og klimarobuste <i>dyrkingsteknikker, husdyrhold og akvakultur<\/i>.<\/li>\n<li><i>tilgang til kreditt<\/i> som gj\u00f8r det mulig for b\u00f8ndene \u00e5 investere i produksjonen og andre inntektsbringende aktiviteter.<\/li>\n<li><i>tilgang til markeder<\/i> gjennom organisering av b\u00f8ndene i kooperativer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"western\">Slik bedres matsikkerheten til b\u00e5de bonden, familien og lokalsamfunnet. Programmene har et s\u00e6rlig fokus p\u00e5 \u00e5 forbedre situasjonen for kvinner og kvinnelige b\u00f8nder.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><i>Matvarehjelp i humanit\u00e6re kriser<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">I humanit\u00e6re kriser samarbeider Caritas med myndigheter og FN om \u00e5 gi befolkningen mat og annen livsn\u00f8dvendig hjelp. Det legges vekt p\u00e5 at distribusjonen ikke skal undergrave lokale markeder og matproduksjon. Kapasitetsbygging av lokale akt\u00f8rer bidrar ogs\u00e5 til at disse blir bedre rustet til \u00e5 forebygge og respondere p\u00e5 fremtidige kriser.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><i>Ansvarliggj\u00f8ring av myndigheter<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">B\u00e5de p\u00e5 lokalt og nasjonalt plan stiller Caritas krav om at myndighetene m\u00e5 sikre egen befolkningens rett til mat. Vi jobber samtidig for at Norge og verdenssamfunnet skal \u00f8ke sin innsats for \u00e5 bekjempe sult, og bidra til oppn\u00e5else av FNs b\u00e6rekraftsm\u00e5l.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\"><span style=\"color: #000099;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\"><b>ENGELSK:<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"center\"><span style=\"color: #000099;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\"><b>For children to learn, they need to eat<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000099;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\"><u><b>We fight hunger<\/b><\/u><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000099;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\"><b>The elimination of hunger and malnutrition is Caritas Norway\u2019s main goal. We are inspired by Pope Francis\u2019 commitment to the cause. <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000099;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\"><i>According to Pope Francis, the amount of people starving is one of the biggest scandals in the world today. The planet has enough food for everyone, but the will for fair distribution is missing (FAO 2014 and 2015).<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000099;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">Around 800 million people in the world are starving (FAO). In addition, an increasing number of people suffer from malnutrition because they do not have the access to or cannot afford enough nutritious food. The reason people are starving is not necessarily the lack of food in itself, but often<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\"> relates to <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">poverty and the unequal distribution of food. 70% of the world\u2019s poor depend on agriculture for income and work (World Bank). We think that an important part of the solution would be an increased commitment to climate smart agriculture for small-scale farmers. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000099;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\"><i><b>Food security<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\"><i>: FAO defines food security as <\/i><\/span><\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>a situation when there is access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food which is necessary for an active and healthy life. The right to food is enshrined in the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights Article 25. Through the UN Sustainable Development Goals all governments are committed to eradicate hunger, achieve food security and improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture by 2030.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000099;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\"><b>The consequences of hunger <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000099;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Hunger and malnutrition are the number one risk to health worldwide and affects people\u2019s physical and mental condition. Children who suffer from hunger during the two first years of their lives often get injuries which can affect them the rest of their lives. Hence, hunger and malnutrition are considered to be the greatest threat to health in the world \u2013 larger even than HIV\/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis all together.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000099;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Hunger affects children the most, not only is it a difficult situation to be in, but hunger can have long term effects which can inhibit the development of a child. Hunger affects children\u2019s development both physically and mentally. Children who are hungry have issues following classes in school and hence with learning. Hunger also makes the work force less efficient and productive due to the fact that the search for food is overshadows anything else. Hunger can even contribute to increasing tensions in a society and hence trigger the eruption of war or conflict. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000099;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><i><b>Did you know that?<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><i> (WFP\/FAO):<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000099;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>98% of people who suffer from hunger live in developing countries<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000099;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>45% of all deaths of children under 5 are related to hunger<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000099;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>33% of the children in the world are stunted due to hunger<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000099;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>60% of the people in the world who are suffering from hunger are women<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000099;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>A large majority of the 800 million who suffer from hunger are farmers <\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000099;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\"><b>Causes of hunger<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000099;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\"><i>Poverty <\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000099;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\"><b>The majority of people suffering from hunger are food producers, <\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">which can seem like a paradox. The reason is that poor farmers in developing countries, who usually have small plots, often lack the seeds, the tools, the watering systems and access to credit that are necessary for efficient farming. In addition, many poor farmers do not have access to the education or training that they need. Poor infrastructure and lack of access to transportation, storage and to processing the crops add to the difficulties for the farmers to produce with surplus and sell their goods at the markets and earn an income. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000099;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\"><i>Climate change<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000099;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">The UN predicts that the world food production can be reduced by 25% by 2050 due to climate change. For a small scale farmer who is dependent entirely on nature and the weather, this would be a catastrophe. Due to population growth, the pressure is increasing on the world\u2019s forests and farmable land. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\"><b>Deforestation, pollution and unsustainable cultivation methods all contribute to soil erosion and degradation which prevents farmers around the world from increasing their production<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">. More than 80% of the world\u2019s most food insecure people live in countries that are particularly affected by natural disasters. The weather phenomena El Ni\u00f1o has caused drought, flooding and extreme weather in many places during 2015 and 2016. Around 60 million people are today threatened by hunger as a direct consequence of El Ni\u00f1o. Due to climate change we can expect an increase in the number of climate refugees. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000099;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\"><i>In war, hunger kills more often than bullets <\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #000099;\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif;\"><span lang=\"en-GB\">Hunger and conflict are crises which reinforce each other. Conflict often has devastating consequences for the people\u2019s access to food. In Madaya, Syria, for example, someone tried to sell a car for 15 kilos of rice. A difficult security situation and a lack of resources often leads to a halt in the local food production.
